| The picturesque little city port of Kyrenia on the north coast was occupied by the Turkish Army on July 22, 1974. |
| Today all but three of the original 4,000 Greek Cypriot inhabitants still live in the city. The rest have been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in the government-controlled area. Today the city's inhabitants include the original Turkish Cypriot inhabitants (about 1,000), Turkish Cypriots from the government-controlled area and Turkish settlers from Turkey. |
